The 7 Pains of Purgatory: Opportunities for Growth and Transformation

Navigating the Challenges of Purgatory with the Law of Attraction and the Path of Cardinal Virtues

The concept of Purgatory is often associated with a place of purification, where souls may experience temporary punishments to cleanse themselves of sins before entering paradise. By closely examining these sufferings, we can find not only an opportunity for spiritual growth but also a parallel with our earthly journey. After exploring together the 7 deadly sins and the 7 cardinal virtues, let’s delve into the 7 pains of Purgatory and how they represent our path on Earth, the things that limit our vision and attainment of Paradise, and make our presence like a journey towards the Inferno where everything seems impossible.

This path has often been used by religions, especially the Catholic one, as an otherworldly journey of souls that have not done enough to purify themselves on Earth and need to do so by atoning for their sins in a middle ground.

In reality, this concept of Purgatory is not even present in the Bible or the Gospels; it is an invention of the Catholic Church, just like Limbo. It can be said that the Catholic Church took this concept and inserted it into the Otherworldly plane when in reality Purgatory would be nothing but our path on Earth.

After all, why test human qualities when life itself is a test? Precisely to have control over human beings and ensure that with sloth, they can postpone their ascension until after death, where they are then told what to do to redeem themselves. They have devised a place where people are led to believe they have not been virtuous enough and are subsequently instructed on how to gain access to Paradise. Without free will. Without having to understand oneself and what they should have done to improve.

Read for yourselves what these circles are for ascending to Paradise according to Dante Alighieri.

Do these moments of despair not sound familiar to you? Do they not remind you of the journey of humanity from birth, through growth, to aging? If we were to remove the word God and replace it with Universe or Paradise, wouldn’t it all seem much clearer how these are the sufferings of Humanity when they lose sight of the objective view of life we should have on this Earth?

Let’s see them together:

1. Deprivation of Vision of God:

In the journey through Purgatory, we face the first challenge: the deprivation of the vision of God, or our belonging to the Cosmic Whole. It’s like being suspended in a spiritual limbo, deprived of the clear perception of our connection to the infinite. This deprivation can be likened to the moment when a human being, just born on Earth, finds themselves immersed in darkness, deprived of awareness of their own divinity and unlimited potential. And they cry.

This deprivation can be seen as a catalyst for growth, it is our first step on earth, the greatest detachment and the greatest suffering we experience in life. Birth.
Humans then grow and become accustomed to this form of detachment, and gradually as they grow, they lose the ability to feel belonging to this Cosmic Whole. And only if we cultivate our true essence, seek to achieve our desires, and do not let ourselves drown in the despair of not having them immediately, can we use this moment of apparent separation from the Universe as a moment to ignite the flame of our inner determination.

Those like me or many others who follow the path of growth of the law of attraction, can truly transform this deprivation into an opportunity to reaffirm our connection with the Universe and rediscover our inner divinity. With confidence and intention, we can attract to ourselves the light of divine inspiration, illuminating our path and leading us towards greater awareness and spiritual fulfillment.

2. Sense of Separation from God:

In the journey through Purgatory, we face the first challenge: the sense of detachment from the Cosmic Whole, our primordial connection to universal essence. It’s like being immersed in a spiritual limbo, where we find ourselves separated from the awareness of our participation in the great flow of the Universe. This sense of separation can be compared to the moment when a human being, just budding into earthly existence, finds themselves enveloped in the darkness of their individuality, detached from awareness of their divine essence and infinite potential. And at that moment, they cry.

This experience of separation represents our first step into the material world, the greatest detachment and the deepest suffering we experience in life. It is Birth. Humans then grow and become accustomed to this perception of distance, gradually losing the sense of belonging to the Cosmic Whole. Only those who cultivate their most authentic essence, who pursue their desires without being overwhelmed by despair, can transform this moment of apparent separation from the Universe into an opportunity to ignite the flame of their inner determination.

Those who follow the path of the law of attraction can truly transmute this sense of separation into an opportunity to reaffirm their connection with the Universe and to rediscover their inner divinity. We can attract to ourselves the light of universal inspiration, illuminating our path and leading us towards greater awareness and fulfillment.

3. Awareness of Sin and Harm Caused:

In the journey through earthly Purgatory, we face the challenge of awareness of sin and harm caused, a moment when we become aware of our past actions and the negative consequences they have generated. It’s like being immersed in a river of regrets and repentance, where we reflect on our past choices and the wounds we have inflicted on others and ourselves. This awareness can be compared to the moment when a human being, confronted with the consequences of their actions, faces the reality of their mistakes and the pain they have caused. And at that moment, they cry.

This moment of awareness represents a crucial stage in the spiritual journey, where we recognize the importance of responsibility and redemption. It’s the moment when we acknowledge the wounds we have inflicted on the fabric of existence and the need to heal and repair what we have damaged. Only those who fully embrace this awareness, who cultivate a sense of responsibility for their actions and who take into account their vibrations, their emotions, and who courageously confront their shadows, can transform this moment of pain into an opportunity for growth and inner transformation by facing the famous Quantum shift.

Those who follow the path of the law of attraction can truly transform this awareness of “sin” and the harm caused to themselves and others into an opportunity to cultivate compassion and healing. Through the practice of forgiveness towards oneself and others, we can free ourselves from the burden of the past and attract experiences of love and healing into our lives.

4. Anxiety for Time Spent Away from God:

In the journey through Purgatory, we face the sensation of anxiety for the time spent away from God, an experience that confronts us with regret for the time lost away from the awareness of the divine presence. It’s like being enveloped in inner darkness, where we reflect on missed opportunities and unseized chances to draw closer to the source of universal love and wisdom. This sensation can be likened to the moment when a human being, after spending time away from their spiritual essence, realizes the time lost and the opportunity missed to connect with their higher nature. And at that moment, anxiety sets in.

This sense of anxiety for time spent away from God represents a crucial phase of the spiritual journey, where we become aware of the fragility and finiteness of earthly life. It’s the moment when we realize that every instant is precious and that we must use our time on Earth meaningfully and consciously, approaching closer and closer to our divine essence. Only those who fully embrace this sense of anxiety and commit to living each moment with a sense of appreciation and gratitude can transform this pain into an opportunity to renew their commitment to the pursuit of truth and spirituality.

Those who follow the path of the law of attraction can truly transform this sense of anxiety for time spent away from the Cosmic Whole into an opportunity to cultivate gratitude and awareness of the present moment. Through the practice of meditation and mindful presence, we can free ourselves from regrets of the past and attract experiences of peace and spiritual fulfillment into our lives.

5. Burning Desire to Unite with God:

In the journey through Purgatory, we face the burning desire to unite with the Whole, an intense passion that burns in our hearts as we aspire to reunite with the very source of universal love and perfection. It’s like feeling the divine fire burning within us, urging us towards a spiritual fusion with eternal light. This burning desire can be likened to the moment when a human being, after spending time searching for meaning and fulfillment in earthly life, feels an intense thirst for connection with the divine essence awaken within them. And at that moment, it burns.

This burning desire to unite with God represents the culmination of our spiritual journey, when we feel the presence of the divine vibrating within us with an irresistible force. It’s the moment when we understand that our true happiness and fulfillment lie only in surrendering completely to divine love and immersing ourselves in its eternal light. Only those who fully embrace this burning desire and dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to the quest for communion with God can hope to achieve peace and spiritual fulfillment.

Those who follow the path of the law of attraction can truly transform this burning desire to unite with the Universe into an opportunity to cultivate gratitude and acceptance of their inner divinity. Through the practice of meditation, we can open our hearts to the loving presence of the Cosmos and attract experiences of spiritual union and transcendence.

6. Anxiety for Delay in Achieving Eternal Bliss:

In the journey through Purgatory, we face the anxiety for achieving the manifestation of our desires in this world, a fervent desire to realize our dreams and aspirations to reach our personal earthly paradise. It’s like being engulfed in inner frenzy, driven by

impatience and excitement as we seek to transform our desires into tangible realities. This anxiety can be likened to the moment when a human being, eager to realize their dreams and ambitions on earth, feels overwhelmed by the pressure of time passing without yet seeing the fruits of their efforts. And at that moment, anxiety sets in.

This anxiety for achieving the manifestation of our desires represents a crucial challenge in our journey of personal realization, as it tests our patience and our faith in the process of manifestation. It’s the moment when we must confront our fears and uncertainties, embracing the awareness that divine timing is perfect and that every step of our journey has a meaningful and purposeful significance. Only those who manage to overcome anxiety for the achievement of their desires and accept with confidence the flow of time can truly hope to realize their personal paradise on this earth.

Those who follow the path of the law of attraction can truly transform this anxiety for achieving their desires into an opportunity to practice trust and gratitude for the present. Through awareness of the present moment and loving acceptance of what is, we can attract experiences of fulfillment and happiness, freeing ourselves from the anguish of time and opening our hearts to the joy of living our personal paradise here and now.

7. Anticipation of Temporary Punishment in Purgatory:

In the final step of earthly Purgatory, we face the anticipation of temporary punishment, a moment fraught with anxiety and trepidation as we prepare to confront new challenges with joyful and impatient emotion. This anxiety, however, despite making us feel a sense of apprehension, is rather a sign of awareness of the existence of Contrast in life.

Contrast represents the difficulties and challenges we encounter along the way, the experiences that push us to the limit and test our inner strength. However, instead of fearing the contrast, we accept it as an integral part of our journey of growth and transformation. It is through contrast that we can truly appreciate the beauty of our existence and the depth of our experiences.

This anticipation of temporary punishment thus becomes a moment of renewed awareness of contrast in life, an opportunity to embrace challenges with courage and determination. It is our ability to accept contrast and to face it with gratitude that allows us to grow and evolve, transforming every obstacle into an opportunity for learning and growth.

Through the practice of the law of attraction, we learn to see Contrast not as an impediment, but as a means to manifest our deepest desires. We use the energy of Contrast to focus our intention and direct our attention towards what we truly want in life. It is this awareness of Contrast and our ability to transform it into an opportunity for growth that allows us to approach ever closer to our earthly paradise, achieving our happiness and realizing our boldest dreams.

In the journey through Purgatory, we face the first challenge: the deprivation of the vision of God. This deprivation can be likened to the moment when a human being, just born on Earth, finds themselves immersed in darkness, deprived of awareness of their own divinity. Only by cultivating our true essence and seeking our desires without despair can we use this separation from the Universe as a moment to ignite our inner determination.

The journey through purgatory, represented by the steps of anticipation of temporary punishment, awareness of contrast, and other crucial moments, reveals a fundamental truth about the nature of life and our human potential. These steps are not merely obstacles to overcome but rather opportunities to grow, learn, and transform our lives.

The challenges and difficulties we encounter along the way are not indications of failure or divine punishment but rather signals of the potential that

lies within us. Scarcity and adversity are often the prelude to great benefit, and accepting contrast as an integral part of our path allows us to develop resilience, determination, and gratitude.

We do not have to live life in regret and self-condemnation for our past actions but rather fully accept ourselves, including our energies, our insecurities, and even our negative actions. It’s through accepting every part of ourselves that we can begin to create our earthly paradise, manifesting our deepest desires and realizing our full potential.

Instead of seeing purgatory as a condemnation inflicted from above, we must recognize it as the result of our choices and vibrations. Through free will, we have the power to free ourselves from it, transforming our experiences and creating a reality more aligned with our higher values and goals. In this way, the journey through purgatory becomes a path to liberation and enlightenment, a journey towards realizing our earthly paradise.

Although I’m not into the purgatory subject, I respect your perspective on it. – Danwil Reyes

I love your description of the journey! Ideally, it’s exactly what we experience. But I believe that purgatory wasn’t just co-opted by the Catholic church. I believe they made it up entirely. I also believe that life isn’t actually a test and that separation from God is a false-matrix illusion. But this journey to enlightenment is as you have described, and I believe that many of us came here to remember who we are and then help others onto that path. Great post! – Jeanine

  3. Thank you Luna. I can see that a lot of work has gone into this article. Very interesting indeed. Your content makes a lot of sense. These issues of anxiety and worry are all too consuming in today’s world. A very interesting read. Many thanks, Alice 🙂

  4. I don’t have a lot to add to this; my upbringing was not religious. But I did see a recent PBS special about Dante’s Divine Comedy.
I think a lot of our modern notions of Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory tend to come from these ideas that have evolved over centuries. I am not sure what folks in say 100 AD would have thought about what a lot of people believe today.
    Interesting. Thanks for this!

    • Well… The age of Dante was different from ours, but we are still paying for the consequences of that horrible time especially from the middle ages. Nowadays Catholic church established that purgatory does not exist, but they didn’t say that they made it up completely. A lot of things in the bible are completely invented and they were used to manipulate people. Dante’s greatness was actually in this, he bounced back all these manipulation to the church itself. Italians have to study Dante for 3 years in high school, and we can’t forget he put a Pope of his time in Hell 🤣
